Why I choose Android Studio over IOS
Early Days
I first looked at IOS development some years back, part of my hobby, whilst teaching maths. I was disappointed when I discovered that I would have to pay accumulatively for using the IOS development kit – even just to become familiar with their product and for self-learning. It would have become a costly hobby. Choosing Android Studio was a no-brainer; the development kit and integrated development environment were completely free. Over the years, I’ve learned new skills and experienced tremendous improvements at zero cost, and that has kept me on board.
Lockdown
Great time doing online courses and getting stuck into Android Application Development; it kept the mind ticking. During this time, it was clear that I would not return to teaching, and so in January 2021, during the lockdown, I retired without fuss, did a few online android related courses and got stuck in. The first Application, MathPuzzler, is almost ready but must go through a bout of testing and preparation with includes needing to implement in-app purchase of the premium version, not an easy task. Then it will involve getting it through a strict flurry of policies and procedures on Google Play Console for Developers.
Retired and Ready to Rollout
Now I am retired and have decided to publish MathPuzzler, which involves a one-off registration fee of £25 with Google Play Console for Developers and agreeing to their terms and conditions for publishing on Google Play. My current application, MathPuzzler, is currently in the internal testing stage. I’m confident about publication in due course.
